Burnham-on-Crouch History
1966 The inshore lifeboat (ILB) station was established near the Yacht Club with a D class lifeboat.
1968 A decision was made to close the lifeboat station but this was reversed when the rescue helicopters from RAF Manston were withdrawn.
1988 A new ILB boathouse was built for the D class.
1996 A B class Atlantic 21 lifeboat was placed alongside the D class on temporary station duty in October.
The lifeboat station was moved to the Yacht Harbour.
A floating boathouse (one of only three in the country) was built for the B class lifeboat and a new shore building was built to provide crew facilities.
1997 A new B class lifeboat was placed on service on 14 February. The Atlantic 75 Brandy Hole was provided by fundraising activities by the Brandy Hole Yacht Club.
The D class lifeboat Ernest and Rose Chapman was placed on service on 12 May and is a gift from David and Barbara Chapman from Essex, in memory of David’s parents.
2002 A new D class floating boathouse was completed in July.
2005 Former LOM Tony Glaze is posthumously awarded the title of MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
