South Broads History
2001 The RNLI’s first inland inshore lifeboat station was opened on 12 July. The relief D class lifeboat, D-438 Arthur & Georgina Stanley, a Ford Ranger 4x4 and an XP inshore lifeboat were placed on service for evaluation trials.
In the first four months the lifeboat crew had carried out 18 launches and rescued 35 people.
2004 South Broads lifeboat station was confirmed as a permanent RNLI station.
2005 The current station is temporarily based in part of the old Hampton Boats site at Oulton Broad and awaiting a permanent station facility in the near future.
South Broads is unique in being the only lifeboat station to use the XP class as a stand alone lifeboat when it is normally used as a tender for the larger all weather lifeboats.
