Castletownbere History

1997 The RNLI established a lifeboat station at Castletownbere for 12 month’s evaluation.

The Arun class lifeboat Roy & Barbara Harding was placed on service for evaluation on 25 October.

1998 The lifeboat station was fully established in October.

2004 Crew members from the station attended a pre-commissioning training course for a new Severn class lifeboat at The Lifeboat College in Poole, Dorset. On 28 July Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh met the Castletownbere crew members during a visit to formally open The Lifeboat College. The Royal party left the College on Castletownbere’s lifeboat Annette Hutton.

The station’s new Severn class lifeboat, ON-1277 Annette Hutton, arrived at the station on 2 August. This lifeboat was funded from the generous bequest of Annette Amanda Marguerite Hutton.
