Crosshaven History

1998  A local community group approached the RNLI to request the formation of a lifeboat station.

2000  A coast review by the RNLI made the decision to form a station and to place a B class Atlantic 21 lifeboat at the station. B-525 Spix’s Macaw became operational on 22 June for 12-month’s evaluation.

2001 The station was declared fully operational in June.

2002  The station moved into a new boathouse on 23 June. It houses the B class lifeboat and provides a crew training room, equipment room, mechanic’s store and workshop, office and souvenir display area.

The Atlantic 21 was replaced by an Atlantic 75 lifeboat, B-782 Miss Betty, on 27 June.

The station was officially opened and the Atlantic 75 lifeboat was officially named on 19 October.

2006 Helmsman Aiden O'Connor was awarded Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum for his part in saving the life of a surfer on 27 October 2005. The service was conducted in heavy surf close to a rocky area.
