Lough Derg History
2003 Senior RNLI officials visited Dromineer to determine if there was a requirement for a lifeboat station.
2004 The RNLI established an inshore lifeboat (ILB) station at Dromineer, on the east bank of Lough Derg, County Tipperary, on 25 May.
The B class Atlantic 21 lifeboat, B-586 Clothworker, was placed on service to cover the largest lake on the River Shannon, stretching for 22 miles from Portumna Bridge in the north to Killaloe in the south and downstream to Parteen Weir.
Clothworker is currently kept afloat, moored to a pontoon, at the Lough Derg Yacht Club's premises in Dromineer. The base includes a changing room, an equipment store and a meeting room with a small office and a kitchen.
2005 The station was approved for night-time service on 14 February.
2007 The new Atlantic 75 lifeboat Vera Skilton was placed on service.
