Barry Dock Crew

LOM Peter Binding
Pete was a crew member of the No2 station boat from 1974, and 2nd Cox from 1976 until the boat was withdrawn in 1979. Pete became a DLA in 1997 and LOM in 2003.

Coxswain Hugh (Spud) Davies
Spud joined the crew in 1992, before being made up to 2nd Coxswain in 1998 and full time Coxswain in 2002. Prior to working for the RNLI Spud worked on the Bristol Pilot cutter. Spud is also Lifeboat training coirdinator.

2nd Cox Andy Lucas
Andy joined the crew in 1990. He was made up to Dep 2nd Coxswain in 2000 and 2nd Coxswain in 2002. Andy works on the Bristol Pilot Cutter.

Dep 2nd Cox Karl Spierling
Karl joined the crew in 1990, and became Dep 2nd Coxswain in 2000. Karl is employed as Coxswain of the Flat Holm island boat.

Emergancy Cox/Navigator Edward (Ed) Hides
Ed joined the crew in 2003. Ed is also on the New Quay (West Wales) crew, as he spends most weekends and most of the summer there. Ed is employed by the council as assistant coxswain on the Flat holm island boat.

Mechanic Richard (Richy) Tutton
Richy Joined the crew in 1999.He became Mechanic in 2002, prior to working for the RNLI Rich was a time served car mechanic.

2nd Mechanic Daniel (Dan) Brown
Dan joined the crew in 1996, and served under his father (Ray) who was Coxswain until 2002. Dan was made up to 3rd mechanic in 2000 and 2nd mechanic in 2002.Dan is employed by ABP as the maintence engineer for their 3 Pilot cutters. Dans younger brother Josh is also on the crew.

3rd Mechanic Chris (Ozzy) Osborne
Ozzy joined the crew in 1997, he became 3rd mechanic in 2004. Oz is employed as Coxswain of the ABP Pilot cutter.

Navigator Maurice (Mo) Carey
Maurice joined the crew in1994. Maurice runs his own pottery, and is also a qualified RYA powerboat instructor. In his spare time Mo can be found sailing his 30ft cruising yacht in the channel.

Navigator David (Dave) Phillips
Dave joined the crew in 1997. Dave was a radar operator in the Navy prior to joining the crew, and is now employed by Black horse finance.

Navigator Martin Bowmer
Martin joined the crew in 1998, and is employed by HSBC as a senior manager. Bowmer learnt to sail as a child and has raced all over the world.

Navigator Paul (Piggsy) Brooks
Paul joined the crew in 2002. Paul has recently passed his Masters qualifictaion and is now working for ABP as a Bristol channel pilot. Pauls younger brother David is also on the crew .

Navigator Gareth Williams
Gareth joined the crew in 2004. Gareth is employed as a Engineer at the local Dow Corning chemical plant in Barry.

Crew/Prospective Navigator Joshua (Josh) Brown
Josh joined the crew in 2004. He is self employed and runs his own sailmaking buisness. Joshs older Dan is also on the crew.

Crew/Prospective Navigator David (Digger) Brooks
David joined the crew in 2006, after returning from working over seas on large yachts. David now works for ABP on the pilot cutter. Davids older brother Paul is also on the crew

Crew/Prospective Mechanic Russ Carter
Russ joined the crew in 2006. Russ is self employed as a painter and decorator.

Crew Peter (Pete) Andrews
Pete Joined the crew in 1998.Pete works for the local council as their Sea Side Officer.

Crew Tim Lockyer
Tim joined the crew in 1998. Tim works for Dow Corning as a fitter on their chemical plant.
Crew Mark (Sharkey) Fisher
Mark joined the crew in 1980 and was emergancy mechnic from 1982 until he finished in 1992. He rejoined the crew in 2004. Mark is employed in the offshore oil industry.

Crew Dean (Deano) Caldwell
Dean Joined the crew in 2004. Dean works as a Ambulance technician.

Crew Duncan Cooper
Duncan joined the crew in 2005. Duncan is employed as a restaurant manager.

Crew Ian (Wattsy) Watts
Wattsy is employed as a air conditioning engineer, and join the crew Feb 2008. Wattsy has sailed and raced all over the country from a early age.

DLA Ray Brown
Ray joined the crew in 1974, becoming Dep 2nd cox in 1989, 2nd cox in 1990 and finally becoming coxswain in 1992, before retiring from the crew in 2002. Ray received his long service badge in 2001. On retiring from the crew Ray was made a DLA. Ray is currently employed as an RNLI Assessor in the West division.
Crew Marc Gibbons
Marc joined the crew in Feb 2008. Marc is employed by the Bristol Port company as a deck hand on their Pilot cutter.

DLA Cliff Murphy
Cliff was a crewmember from 1987 until his retirment in 1994. Cliff became a DLA in 2004

DLA Phill Cummins
Phill was previously a crew member from 1975 until his retirment in 2002 during this time he held the posts of Dep 2nd Cox and 2nd Cox. Phill became a DLA in 2003
