Beaumaris History

1830 A Silver Medal was awarded to David Griffiths for rescuing over 40 people from the emigrant ship Newry that was wrecked off the Lleyn Peninsula. The main mast was cut down to form a bridge between the ship and shore and, in total, 375 people were saved.

1975 A larger ILB boathouse was built on the east side of the Pier.

1976 The D class lifeboat was withdrawn and replaced with a B class Atlantic 21 lifeboat, funded by the BBC Blue Peter Appeal.

1991 The boathouse was extended for the lifeboat and launching tractor to be coupled in-line, and it also provided a souvenir sales outlet.

The all weather lifeboat was withdrawn on 7 July and the station became an all-year-round inshore lifeboat station.

1998 A Framed Letter of Thanks was awarded to Crew Member Martin Broughton for a service to the grounded yacht Moon Storm in force 10–11 winds, with recorded gusts of force 12.
