Flint History

1966 An inshore lifeboat (ILB) station was established in May with a D class lifeboat. The ILB was kept in a garage on the foreshore close to Flint Castle.

1981 A new slipway was built to improve launching.

1983 A Bronze Medal was awarded to Helmsman Robert Alan Forrester when the lifeboat rescued the two crew from the cabin cruiser Heron II, aground and taking on water. Framed Letters of Thanks were awarded to Crew Members Denis James Smith and Terrance Henry Jacklin who had both boarded the cruiser to carry off one of the survivors who had collapsed.

1985 A new boathouse was built providing improved crew facilities.

1990 A special framed certificate was presented to the station for the services carried out between 26 February and 1 March when the area of Towyn and Pensarn suffered severe flooding. During hurricane force winds and very high tides Flint lifeboat crew worked for up to 14 hours each day and helped 180 people to safety.

1991 A Framed Letter of Thanks was awarded to Mr Graham Oare for rescuing three fishermen after their boat had capsized and sunk off Flint Castle; he had gone out in his own fishing boat to rescue them.
 
1996  The D class lifeboat, D-510 Marjorie Helen, was placed on service on 16 October.

2000  A certificate of commendation was awarded to the lifeboat crew for rescuing a dolphin stranded in Mostyn dock.

2001 Trials of a new hovercraft were carried out on the mudflats of the Dee Estuary. These trials were carried out at several stations around the coast.

2006 The new D class lifeboat Sir Y Flint was placed on service on 19 December.
