Trearddur Bay History

1967 An inshore lifeboat station was established and the D class lifeboat Gemini arrived on 9 May. Her first rescue took place on 4 June.

1971 Bronze Medals were awarded to Helmsman John Burns and Crew Member Edmund Williams for the rescue of two people clinging to a capsized dinghy near Cod Rocks.

 A new boathouse was built.

1993 A larger boathouse was built providing a changing room, workshop, souvenir sales outlet, toilet, fuel store, a crew room, galley and storeroom.

1996 The D class lifeboat was withdrawn and replaced by a B class lifeboat, an Atlantic 21.

1996 A new B class lifeboat, the Atlantic 75 B-731 Dorothy Selina, was placed on service on 5 December.

1997 The lifeboat was called out to a hot air balloon that was blown out to sea during an attempt to fly over Snowdon.

1999 A Framed Letter of Thanks was awarded to Helmsman Alan Hughes for his actions during a search for a child who had fallen into the sea at Rhoscolyn. Helmsman Hughes operated the inshore lifeboat at the very limits of its operational capabilities.

2001 The Royal Humane Society Testimonial Vellum and Resuscitation Certificate was awarded to the Station Honorary Secretary Mr Jack Abbott MBE for swimming out to rescue and resuscitate a man who was floating face down in the sea on 24 May 2001.

 A decision was made by the Executive Committee to co-locate a D class inshore lifeboat at Trearddur Bay with immediate effect.

2002 The Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum was awarded to Helmsman Christopher Pritchard for the rescue of three people from a capsized speedboat on 8 September 2001. The Walter and Elizabeth Groombridge Award for 2001 was awarded to Helmsman Christopher Pritchard for this service.

2004 A new IB1-type D class lifeboat, D-614 Flo & Dick Smith, was placed on service on 16 January. This lifeboat was funded by a generous gift from Mrs FM Smith.

2005  A purpose-built boathouse was completed to house the new lifeboat.

2006 Helmsman Terry Penlebury was awarded a Framed Letter of Thanks signed by the Chairman for his part in saving the lives of two divers.
